Maha: Sharad Pawar urges CM to appoint commission for cooperative sector

Mumbai, May 12 (UNI) NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar on Monday requested Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to appoint a commission for studying the cooperative sector.
Speaking at a programme here, Pawar made this request to Fadnavis in front of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar regarding cooperative factories.
Seeking to draw his attention to current state of the cooperative factories in Maharashtra, Pawar said that earlier, there were 80 percent cooperative and 20 percent private factories but now 50 percent cooperative factories have become private.
He requested the Chief Minister to appoint a commission to study issues of the cooperative societies.
Pawar further said that during the Deccan Uprising, when the British understood the suffering of the farmers, they came up with solutions. At that time, farmers used to take loans from moneylenders and traders, but they stopped and started getting loans from cooperatives.

Speaking on occasion, Fadnavis admitted that 50 percent of the cooperative sugar factories in the state have been privatised, as stated by Sharad Pawar.
In the sugar industry, a factory cannot run only on sugar but has to rely on other related businesses, he noted and rued that cooperative factories are not being run in a professional manner.
