Minor fire breaks out in Thanjavur Govt hospital, none hurt, patients evacuated

Chennai, Apr 24 (UNI) A minor fire broke out in the labour block of the Thanjavur Government
Hospital here on Thursday.
Thanjavur District Collector Ms Priyanka, who immediately visited the spot, said none was injured
in the fire.
All the patients were safe and there was no need for panic, she told reporters.
She said fire fighting units reached the spot within ten minutes with fire extinguishers and exhausters
and put out the fire., which broke out following a short circuit in the AC unit in the labour ward situated in the first floor.
There were 24 patients in the ward and all of them were evacuated safely and shifted to other block. Additionally 26 patients, who were in the ground floor, where the smoke spread, were also safely shifted.
"We have shifted about 50 patients safely to other blocks. They were being attended by a special
team of doctors. There is no cause for worry", the Collector said.
