Shimla, Apr 7 (UNI) The commissioning of the 100 MW Uhl Phase-III Hydropower Project in Kullu district is expected to generate an additional Rs 200 crore revenue for the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL), Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced today.
Presiding over a review meeting of the Energy Department, the Chief Minister claimed that the long-delayed project, initiated in 2003, has now been completed after 22 years due to the focused efforts and financial support of Rs 185 crore provided by the current state government.
The project had faced a major setback in May 2020 when a penstock burst caused damage, delaying progress. However, since commissioning, it has already produced 2.97 crore units of electricity.
CM Sukhu stated that once fully operational, Uhl Phase-III is expected to generate 392 million units of electricity annually, significantly contributing to the state’s power supply and economy.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening HPSEBL, he announced large-scale recruitment of field staff to improve ground-level operations and enhance service delivery across the state.
The Chief Minister also noted that several HPSEBL officers are currently on deputation to other power-related departments and corporations. He directed that these officers be given the option of permanent absorption in their respective organizations by April 30. Vacant posts would be filled promptly to ensure efficient functioning.
The meeting was attended by Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, Chief Minister's Principal Advisor Ram Subhag Singh, Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, Director Energy Rakesh Kumar Prajapati and HPSEBL MD Sandeep Kumar.
