Puri Airport to unlock vast tourism and economic potential- Official

Bhubaneswar, May 8 (UNI) The proposed Greenfield Airport at Puri, recently approved by the Centre, is set to enhance air connectivity and unlock significant tourism and economic opportunities for the region.
Usha Padhi, Secretary of Odisha's Housing and Urban Development and Commerce and Transport Departments, visited the project site to review land acquisition and resettlement efforts.
Speaking on the occasion, she said, “The Puri Airport is not merely a structural project; it is a forward-looking gateway that will place Puri prominently on the global spiritual tourism map.”
She added, “With this approval, we can now accelerate development to meet global standards and achieve Greenfield airport status.”
Puri, one of India’s most sacred pilgrimage destinations and one of the four Char Dhams, attracts lakhs of devotees and tourists annually.
The upcoming airport is expected to significantly boost the arrival of both national and international tourists, thereby stimulating growth in hospitality, transportation, services, investment, and employment.
The Odisha government, in collaboration with the Airports Authority of India and other key stakeholders, is working to fast-track the project's implementation.
Key focus areas include environmental sustainability, heritage preservation, and inclusive development.
With Greenfield status granted, the Puri Airport project has entered a critical new phase—an ambitious step toward establishing Odisha as a global hub for spiritual and cultural tourism, Padhi said.
