No Pakistani but 200 Bangladeshi nationals found in Tripura

Agartala, Apr 28 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday revealed that following instructions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the administration undertook an extensive exercise and found no Pakistani nationals here.

However, 200 Bangladeshis were found to be currently legally staying in the state.

“The report has already been sent to the Union Home Ministry detailing the presence of foreign nationals in the state along with the security measures undertaken,” Dr Saha stated. Soon after, Union Home Minister directed immediate action to identify foreign nationals in the region; District Superintendents of Police (SPs) and District Magistrates (DMs) plunged into action, he said.

"We are conducting thorough investigations, and I have submitted a detailed report to Delhi confirming that no Pakistani nationals have been found in Tripura to date," he added.

Meanwhile, police and other security forces arrested at least 15 illegal Bangladeshi nationals from different parts of the state in the last three days who were found using Tripura as their corridor to move to other cities of the country.

The railway police on Sunday arrested four Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala Railway Station while they were waiting for a train for an onwards journey to Bengaluru and Chennai. They have been identified as Zahirul Islam, alias Zahir (42), Dhaka; Dilwar Hossain (44) of Shariatpur; Jamirul Islam (27) of Panchagarh; and Mohammad Zia (35), Jamalpur of Bangladesh.
