Law and order collapse under Nitish regime in Bihar : Congress

Patna, Apr 28 (UNI) Congress on Monday alleged that law and order had totally collapsed under the regime of Nitish-led NDA government in Bihar as even policemen were being targeted in the state.
President of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee(BPCC) Rajesh Ram said here that criminals were striking at their will in Bihar as policemen were sitting like silent spectators. At some places, even policemen were being attacked by criminals which indicated that they had no fear of being brought to justice, he added.
Congress leader said that incidents of crime in last 24 hours in Bihar reflected the fact that people were unsafe and insecure in the state. A total of 953 incidents had occurred in Bihar in last 24 hours, he further said adding that eight of them were murder, 33 kidnappings, 55 crimes against women and kidnappings of 17 children, he added.
Ram said that three policemen were made captive by villagers in Bihta when they had gone there to nab a scrap smuggler. When officer-in-charge of local police station rushed there to rescue policemen, he was also manhandled by villagers, he added.
" Criminals had opened fire on local JD(U) leader in Mithnapur locality of Muzaffarpur district but he was fortunate enough to escape unhurt, " Congress leader said adding that criminals were not arrested even after their activities were seen in CCTV cameras installed there. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should assert his authority to check criminal activities in Bihar, he stated.
