Justice Harish Tandon sworn in as Chief Justice of Orissa HC

Cuttack, Mar 26 (UNI) Justice Harish Tandon was sworn in as the 35th Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati administered the oath of office to Justice Tandon at a simple ceremony held on the premises of the Orissa High Court in Cuttack on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, several ministers, judges of the Orissa High Court, Bar Association members, and other dignitaries were present at the oath-taking ceremony.
Justice Tandon, who arrived in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, visited the Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri with his wife and sought the blessings of the Lords before taking the oath.
After the retirement of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19, the office of the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court remained vacant. Justice Arindam Sinha had been officiating as the Acting Chief Justice.
On March 6, the Supreme Court collegium recommended the appointment of Justice Tandon as Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, which was cleared by the central government on March 21.
Born on November 16, 1964, Justice Tandon graduated from Calcutta University in 1983 and passed the LL.B. examination conducted by Calcutta University in 1989.
He was enrolled as an advocate on September 26, 1989, and began practicing in Calcutta High Court, handling civil and constitutional matters, primarily on the Appellate Side.
He also appeared before the City Civil Court, Debt Recovery Tribunal, and the Supreme Court.
He was appointed as a permanent judge of Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2010.
