Congress pays tributes to former PM Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary

Patna, May 21 (UNI) Bihar Congress on Wednesday paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.
A function was organised at Sadaqat Ashram, the state headquarters of the party, to pay tributes to former PM Gandhi on his death anniversary. President of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) Rajesh Ram and other senior leaders of the party paid floral tributes to Gandhi.
Ram, while speaking on the occasion, said that Gandhi was instrumental in starting revolution in telecommunication and information technology. The vision of Gandhi laid the foundation stone of modern India, having extensive use of computers in government offices and banks, he added.
" Gandhi had amended the constitution for decentralisation of power and strengthening the Panchayati Raj institutions", the Congress leader said, adding that provision for 33 percent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions was made in the amendment of the constitution. Minimum age for exercising the franchise was reduced from 21 to 18 years by Gandhi, he recalled.
