Odisha CM directs District Collectors to follow SOP to combat Heatwave

Bhubaneswar, Mar 19 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed district collectors to work in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the government to combat the heatwave.
While reviewing the state's preparedness to deal with the heatwave situation, Majhi also advised district collectors to take necessary actions beyond the SOP if required.
The Chief Minister informed all district collectors and secretary-level officers of various departments that this year, the heatwave has arrived early in the state.
He emphasized the goal of zero casualties and advised officials to arrange tents and umbrellas for shade at traffic intersections in urban areas and bus stands in rural areas.
The Chief Minister ordered changes in the operating hours of Anganwadi centers and schools, directing that they function between 7 AM and 9 AM in view of the heatwave conditions.
He stated that more than 17,000 tube wells have been sanctioned by the Panchayati Raj
Department and instructed district collectors to ensure the installation and repair of tube
wells within a week.
Majhi also directed district collectors to identify areas facing drinking water shortages and make necessary arrangements for borewells and tube wells.
Similarly, he instructed the relevant departments to issue guidelines ensuring that workers in both government and private sectors remain off duty between 11 AM and 3 PM.
Addressing concerns about power cuts on hot days, Majhi stated that he had strictly instructed the Power Department to ensure there are no power outages between 11 AM and 5 PM, as well as between 9 PM and 6 AM.
The Chief Minister emphasized that government officials should be deployed to the field to address summer-related issues in villages.
