62 lakh smart prepaid metres installed in Bihar: Minister

Patna, Mar 19 (UNI) Bihar Energy Minister Vijender Prasad Yadav on Wednesday said in the assembly that a total of 62 lakhs smart prepaid meters had been installed in the state so far.
Yadav said that the number of power consumers had increased to 2.12 crores and providing them uninterrupted quality power was a big challenge. The state government had taken several steps to provide quality power to consumers and also minimise bil -related grievances of the consumers, he added.
The Minister said the process of installing smart prepaid metres in households was started first in the urban area of the state which helped in minimising bills related grievances of consumers. In the first phase, the process of installing 23.5 lakh smart prepaid metres was started and after getting encouraging results, approval for installing 1.48 crores smart prepaid meters was also started in rural areas, he added.
"A total of 62 lakh smart prepaid metrEs were installed in Bihar so far", Yadav said adding that consumers were being given 5 days time for re-charge after amount paid earlier in advance was exhausted. Similarly, consumers in urban areas were being given three days time for re-charge in such a situation, he added.
The Minister said that awareness drive among consumers had been launched at large scale both in urban and rural areas to remove doubts among them over installation of smart prepaid metres. Smart prepaid meters were also being installed in government buildings, he added. UNI KKS SSP
