Mizoram CM inaugurates World Art Day celebration in Aizawl

Aizawl, Apr 15 (UNI) Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday inaugurated the World Art Day 2025 celebration, the National Art Exhibition, and a seminar on art in Aizawl.
The event was jointly organised by the Government of Mizoram and the International Association of Art (IAA) India, with the Chief Minister serving as Chief Patron of IAA Mizoram.
In his address, Lalduhoma underlined the deep bond between art and culture, noting that art has historically served as a mirror of society. “Long before writing, human stories were told through drawings. Among the Mizos too, art has been a longstanding medium to convey thoughts, beliefs, and traditions,” he said.
He welcomed UNESCO’s recognition of art as a catalyst for peace, healing, and education, and stressed the importance of promoting Mizoram’s cultural richness through various forms of visual art. “Our artists—be they filmmakers, writers, photographers, or performers-are—are cultural ambassadors. We must continue to support their work,” he said.
Describing art as a universal language, the Chief Minister said it transcends barriers of religion, language, and ethnicity. “Art is not just about expression—it is about preservation. It keeps our identity alive,” he remarked.
The inaugural function was also addressed by Art & Culture Minister C. Lalsawivunga, I&PR Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana, IAA India President Manaj Saha, Goodwill Ambassador Biblad Roy, and National Convener Lubna Hassan, who joined via video message. The programme was chaired by Zodingpuii, Secretary of the Art & Culture Department and Working Secretary of IAA Mizoram.
World Art Day is observed every year on April 15 to mark the birth anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci, and was officially recognised by UNESCO in 2019. Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister toured the Art Gallery at the I&PR Auditorium. The afternoon seminar featured the theme “Rich Folk Culture of Resilient Mizos.”
