HP clears groundbreaking legislation to tackle organised crime

Shimla, Mar 27 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government has introduced a bold new piece of crime legislation, drawing inspiration from Maharashtra’s successful Organised Crime Control Act (MOCA), to combat organised criminal activities like drug trafficking, cyber terrorism, human organ trade, and healthcare fraud.
This new legislation, named the Himachal Pradesh Organised Crimes (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2025, was presented by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in the state assembly on Wednesday and passed on Friday with voice votes.
Chief Minister Sukhu stated that organised crime has become a growing threat to public safety, economic stability, and overall security, necessitating a dedicated legal framework to address this rising menace. The bill seeks to combat the increasing presence of criminal syndicates that harm the state’s social and economic fabric, particularly as organised criminal activities have begun to gain momentum in the region.
