Voter awareness drives being conducted at higher educational institutes in Kangra

Dharamshala, May 17 (UNI) District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa informed that, in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, voter awareness drives are being conducted across all higher educational institutions in Kangra district.
These activities are being carried out under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme through Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs), monitored by nodal officers across all 15 assembly constituencies.
The initiative aims to spread awareness among students about the importance of enrolling their names in the electoral rolls, removing the names of ineligible or migrated voters, and making necessary corrections in the electoral entries. The objective is to ensure maximum participation of youth in the upcoming elections.
Future voters are being educated about their role in the democratic process and inspired to act as responsible citizens. They are also being informed about the use of the Voter Helpline App for accessing electoral services.
Bairwa further stated that the registration of voters in photo electoral rolls is currently underway in Kangra district, with April 1, 2025, as the qualifying date.
He appealed to citizens to visit their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with a passport-size color photograph, Aadhaar number, age, and residence proof to get themselves and eligible family members enrolled. This includes those who will attain the age of 18 years or above by April 1, 2025.
He added that Electoral Literacy Clubs have been set up in all higher education institutions to educate and motivate new voters to register and participate actively in the democratic process.
