Himachal Agri Minister inaugurates farmers' rest house at Jasur

Jasur (Kàngra) May 16 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Prof. Chander Kumar today inaugurated a newly-constructed Farmers’ Rest House at the sub-market yard in Jasur, in Nurpur subdivision.

The facility, built at a cost of approximately Rs 1.35 crore, features nine rooms, two VIP suites, a 12-bed dormitory, and a canteen.
The Minister said the new rest house will provide much-needed accommodation for farmers and traders visiting the busy sub-market in Jasur, especially those arriving from distant areas.
Highlighting the state’s ongoing initiatives to enhance agricultural infrastructure, Prof. Kumar informed that under the Mandi Committee Kangra, sub-market yards are currently operational in Kangra, Palampur, Baijnath, Jaisinghpur, Nagrota Bagwan, Dharamshala, Jawalamukhi, Guler, Jwali, Jasur, and Dharman.
Additionally, three grain markets are functioning in Fatehpur, Gangath, and Rihali.
“In the financial year 2024-25, these mandis have recorded an arrival of 4,05,305 quintals of fruits and vegetables. Furthermore, 1,738 farmers sold 1,34,626 quintals of paddy and 12,795 quintals of wheat under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme,” he stated.
The Minister noted that 442 traders are registered under the Kangra Mandi Committee, and 8,444 farmers are enrolled with the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) portal.

Through e-NAM, these farmers have collectively traded fruits and vegetables worth Rs 6.98 crore.
Markets in Kangra, Palampur, Baijnath, Dharamshala, and Jasur have been integrated with e-NAM, promoting transparency and ensuring competitive prices for farmers.
Emphasising the significance of agricultural markets, Prof. Kumar said, “Mandis are not just trading hubs but a pillar of economic security and market access for farmers. That is why the state government is committed to continuously strengthening the mandi network. Farmers are the backbone of the state’s economy, and empowering them remains a top priority.”
He directed officials to ensure the ongoing expansion of farmer-friendly facilities in the mandis.
