AP: Videsi Vidya Deevena will be relaunched: CM

Guntur Apr 14 (UNI) Terming Dr BR Ambedkar as a warrior who relentlessly fought for Dalits, Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu, on Monday, declared that the TDP-led NDA Government is committed to the progress and welfare of the Dalit community.

After taking part in the birth anniversary celebrations of Dr BR Ambedkar at Ponnekallu of Tadikonda Assembly segment in Guntur district on Monday, the Chief Minister told the gathering at the Praja Vedika that his Government would realise the dream of students who want to pursue their higher studies abroad by relaunching the Ambedkar Videsi Vidya Deevena scheme. Chandrababu Naidu also announced that more residential schools would be set up soon to extend quality education for Scheduled Caste (SC) students.

The Chief Minister mentioned that with the blessings of the people, Amaravati would be transformed into the best city in the whole world. Recalling that Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891, at Mhow village in Maharashtra, Chandrababu said how the great personality had grown to become a legend, facing several humiliations like untouchability.

Dr Ambedkar was a man who had set the stage and direction for Indian democracy, the Chief Minister said, and made it clear that he does not belong to a particular person or represent a particular community but a personality of everyone. Maintaining that the TDP, ever since its formation, has been giving the highest priority for the welfare of Dalits, Chandrababu said that in 2002 Mundadugu programme was launched while study centres were set up for SC and ST students.
"We will facilitate foreign education for the poor SC, ST students by relaunching Ambedkar Videsi Vidya Nidhi scheme. Previously, Rs 15 lakh financial assistance was being given for SC,ST students, while Rs 10 lakh for BC, EBC, Kapu, and Minority students. Thus, Rs 467 crore was spent for 7,000 students and between 2014-19 Rs 50 crore financial help was extended for the education of 619 SC students and 55 ST students," Chandrababu Naidu said.
Listing out various welfare schemes launched for the SCs, the Chief Minister said that the State has 21 lakh poor SC and ST families for whom 200 units of power each is being supplied free of cost. "If you can install solar power panels atop your houses, you can utilise these 200 units, and the surplus power can be supplied to the Government at Rs 2.09 per unit, through which your revenue too will go up," he revealed.
The Chief Minister declared that an additional Rs 50,000 each will be paid to SCs and STs for building their houses, which will cost the exchequer an additional Rs 780 crore. The progress of any society depends on the development of the downtrodden sections, he said, and stated that the only difference between a common man and a legendary personality is that the legendary personality always gets ready to be in service to society.
