AP: Police seize 5 tonnes of gelatin sticks, arrest 5 persons

Bapatla, Apr 20 (UNI) The police seized a huge quantity of gelatin sticks, weighing five tonnes, which were hoarded in a godown at Nagarajupalli village of Martur mandal of the district, and arrested five persons.
Addressing a press conference at Martur police station on Sunday, DSP Ramanjaneyulu said that a police team on a tip conducted a raid on a godown located on the outskirts of Nagarajupalli village and seized five tonnes of gelatin sticks which were hoarded there. The seized gelatin sticks were worth Rs 20 lakh.
Police arrested one Dasam Hanumantha Rao.
The DSP said that the five tonnes of gelatin sticks were packed in 180 boxes. The accused D Hanumantha Rao had purchased the gelatin sticks from the SALVO industries, located in Telangana on April 18 and brought them to the village on a vehicle without obtaining required permissions.
The DSP said that the gelatin sticks kept in 180 boxes belong to the ThunderBolt variety and the remaining are the Super E-90 variety.
Police also impounded the lorry used for transportation of the gelatin stock
from Telangana to here.
Meanwhile, accused Hanumantha Rao sold the gelatin stocks to Dasam Veeranjaneyulu, Midala Naga Venugopal and Battula Sambashiva Rao and Pratap Reddy.
Police have registered cases against five accused for transporting explosives illegally, selling, possessing and hoarding them.
Accused Hanumantha Rao sold the gelatin sticks to the four accused without knowing why they were purchasing the explosives, the DSP clarified.
The Martur police has registered a case under Sections 4 & 5 of Explosive Substance Act-1908, Section 9(B) of Explosive Act, Sections 318, 61(2), 288 read with 3(5) BNS.
Furthermore, the police mentioned M/s Salvo Industries licence holder M N Benugopal for selling the huge quantity of explosives without verifying the authentication of the buyer.
Accused Hanumantha Rao had taken sublease contract from M Naga Venugopal and had been selling gelatin sticks and electrical detonators, ordinary detonators (SSOD), detonator fuse wires (DF) and other material for the last few years without verifying veracity of the buyers.
The gelatin sticks are usually used to break granite boulders at granite quarries, the DSP explained.
The DSP recalled that gelatin sticks and claymore mines were used by the Naxalites to assassinate Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at Alipiri near Tirupati in 2023 in the united AP.
