Chennai, Apr 20 (UNI) An absconding accused in a murder case was arrested
after 31 years by a special police team from Tamil Nadu in Assam.
A release from office of the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police here said
the accused was arrested on April 18 and brought to the city for proceed with
the case.
In Ranipet District, a murder case was registered in Arakkonam Town Police
Station, wherein accused were involved.
In this case, only the first accused was arrested and the second accused has
been absconding till date.
The case was charge sheeted and the first accused was convicted with the
court awarding life imprisonment in 2005.
However, the trial could not be finished in respect of the 2nd accused as he
was yet to be arrested.
In this regard, a special team was formed and rigorous efforts were taken to
trace him.
Finally, after 31 years, acting on various inputs, the accused person was located
and arrested by the special team at Dibrugarh in Assam.
He was brought to Tamil Nadu today for further legal proceedings.
