ICG seizes 145 kg sea cucumbers worth Rs 58 lakh

Chennai, Apr 14 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Station Mandapam
successfully executed an anti-poaching operation and seized 145 kg of
sea cucumbers worth Rs 58 lakhs.
The operation took place on Sunday when the ICG intercepted a major
consignment of illegally harvested sea cucumbers and seized them.
A defence release on Monday evening said based on specific local
intelligence indicating suspicious activity near the beaching point off
North Vedalai sea coast, ICG personnel launched a prompt response
and the operation led to the seizure of about 145 kgs of sea cucumbers.
The estimated market value of the seized consignment, as per open
source data, is Rs. 58 lakhs.
This timely action thwarted the illegal transshipment of the protected
marine species and reflected the ICG’s unwavering dedication to
preserving India’s maritime biodiversity.

anti-smuggling and anti-poaching operations, marine environmental
