Telangana Minister stresses on uninterrupted water supply in rural areas

Hyderabad, Mar 21 (UNI) Telangana Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply Minister Dr Danasari Anasuya Seethakka reaffirmed that there are sufficient water reserves in reservoirs and that efforts are underway to ensure uninterrupted water supply, even to villages that previously faced shortages.
The minister conducted a video conference with officials at the Mission Bhagiratha office in Erramanzil on Friday to review the availability of drinking water in reservoirs amid rising summer temperatures.
Expressing concern over recent media reports about drinking water shortages, Minister Seethakka sought clarifications from officials and directed them to stay alert. She reiterated that sufficient water reserves are available and that the government is taking steps to ensure a steady water supply.
Additionally, borewells have been drilled in Adilabad and agency villages to supplement drinking water sources and address potential shortages.
Minister Seethakka dismissed false propaganda suggesting that water supply issues have worsened after the BRS government lost power. She pointed out that the same officials and staff continue to work under Mission Bhagiratha, and there is no scope for a crisis.
However, she warned that if technical issues arise, alternative arrangements are in place, including the availability of Rs 2 crore with each district collector for emergency water supply.
To strengthen monitoring, the government has established a 24/7 call center at the Mission Bhagiratha head office and sanctioned Rs 1,000 crore for new works under Mission Bhagiratha.
Additionally, water helpers have been appointed in villages to address issues at the field level, and officials have been directed to hold district-wise meetings with collectors and MLAs to ensure coordinated efforts in preventing drinking water shortages.
Minister Seethakka urged officials to refute false media reports and present accurate updates to the public. She warned that failure to ensure proper water supply or counter misleading narratives would result in strict action. Officials have been instructed to submit a daily report by 0800 hours on drinking water supply and any corrective measures taken.
The minister assured that she would conduct continuous reviews until the end of summer to ensure that no village faces drinking water issues.
The meeting was attended by Panchayat Raj Rural Development Secretary DS Lokesh Kumar, Mission Bhagiratha ENC Kripakar Reddy, Chief Engineers, and District Engineers, an official statement said.
