Seethakka inaugurates Telangana’s first govt-run de-addiction centre at Saidabad

Hyderabad, Mar 22 (UNI) Telangana Panchayat Raj, Women and Child Welfare Minister Seethakka on Saturday inaugurated a De-Addiction Centre at the Saidabad Observation Home, a significant step in the state’s fight against drug abuse.
The centre, established under the Department of Empowerment of Disabled, Elderly & Transgender Persons, aims to provide rehabilitation, awareness, and treatment services for children affected by drug abuse.

Speaking at the event, Minister Seethakka emphasised the growing drug addiction crisis among youth, attributing it to various societal influences. She highlighted that substance abuse not only affects health, education, and employment but also contributes to rising crime rates and societal instability.

Under the "Mission Parivartan" initiative, Telangana is intensifying efforts to combat drug addiction through awareness programs, rehabilitation services, and coordinated monitoring with the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau. The government has set up a special cell with Community Educators, Assistant Program Managers, and Program Managers to oversee these initiatives across the state.

The Saidabad De-Addiction Centre marks a historic milestone as Telangana’s first government-run facility for children struggling with drug addiction.

The Department of Welfare of Disabled, Elderly & Transgender Persons has allocated Rs 13.80 lakh for its annual maintenance, with future funding assured for its seamless operation. The centre will be staffed by specialized psychologists offering counselling, medical treatment, and family awareness programs to aid in the rehabilitation process.

Minister Seethakka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding de-addiction centres across all observation homes in Telangana. She urged the youth to stay away from drugs and focus on achieving their goals, becoming key contributors to a drug-free Telangana.
