Hyderabad, Feb 26 (UNI) The stage is set to hold the election for three constituencies of Telangana Legislative Council in the state on Thursday.
The Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency will go the polls.
The polling will start at 8 AM and it will conclude at 4 PM at the three constituencies, spread over 15 districts in the state.
While 56 candidates are in fray for the lone Graduates’ constituency, 15 and and 19 candidates are contesting the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituencies respectively.
While 3.55 lakh people have registered their names for the graduates’ constituency, there are 27,000 for the teachers segment.
While the ruling Congress party is directly contesting the’ graduate constituency, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded candidates in all the three seats while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) stayed away from the contest.
Currently, T Jeevan Reddy (Congress) was the sitting MLC from the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ seat, while K Raghottham Reddy and Alugubelli Narsi Reddy are MLCs from the respective Teachers’ constituencies. Their terms will end on March 29.
The Election Commission of India has made elaborate arrangements for peaceful conduct of the polling.
Police have issued prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC across all constituencies until polling concludes, restricting unlawful assembly.
Orders have also been issued for the closure of liquor shops in the combined Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda districts for the next 48 hours as part of election regulations.
The results will be announced on March 3.
