Govt to hike water tariff in Bengaluru: Shivakumar

Bengaluru, Mar 14 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday announced that the government is considering a water tariff hike of one paisa per litre to address financial constraints and bridge a revenue shortfall of Rs 1,000 crore.
The announcement follows his statement during the zero-hour session in the Legislative Council on Thursday, where he emphasised the necessity of a marginal increase in water tariffs to sustain Bengaluru's water supply infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted service to residents.
"The financial burden on the government is growing, and a rationalised tariff structure is essential to maintain operations. However, we are also assessing ways to minimise the impact on consumers," Shivakumar said.
