Mumbai, Mar 11 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday warned that strict action would be taken against those violating prescribed noise limits for loudspeakers at places of worship and the norms in this regard are not being implemented the way they should be.
He said that police officials should visit places of worship in their respective areas and ensure that guidelines for loudspeakers at places of worship were being followed.
“The guidelines for loudspeakers at places of worship, as per the Centre and court, have to be strictly followed. Anybody violating the norms will invite strong action,” Fadnavis said in the state Legislative Assembly.
“There should be no use of loudspeakers from 10 pm to 6 am. In the morning, the permissible noise limit for loudspeakers is 55 decibels; at night, it is 45 decibels,” he added.
Fadnavis, who holds the Home portfolio, maintained police inspectors have been tasked with implementing guidelines on use of loudspeakers at places of worship in their respective areas of jurisdiction, and favoured changes in the relevant law to ensure rules are strictly followed.
Fadnavis was replying to a calling attention motion in the assembly by BJP MLAs Devyani Farande and Atul Bhatkalkar.
