Maha: Cabinet approves to set up 6th State Finance Commission

Mumbai, Feb 18 (UNI) The Maharashtra Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday gave its approval for establishment of the Sixth State Finance Commission.
The State Finance Commission will review the financial position of Panchayats and Municipalities.
The Commission will make recommendations for a period of five years from April one, 2026 to March 31, 2031.
The Commission will have a deadline of December 31, 2025 to submit its report on these recommendations.
The meeting also approved giving the Chief Minister the right to recommend the name of the chairman and members of the Commission to the Governor.
An officer of not less than the rank of junior administrative grade officer in the Indian Administrative Service or of equivalent rank shall be appointed to the post of member secretary of the Commission.
It was also approved to create necessary posts during the tenure of the Commission, to provide adequate budgetary provision for necessary office and recurring non-recurring expenses for more effective functioning of the Commission.
Aprat from the Commission, the state Cabinet also approved a provision of Rs 1,275.78 crore for Varkhede Londhe Barrage project in Jalgaon district, Rs 1,594 crore for solar power project to increase energy efficiency of Mhaisal Upsa Irrigation Scheme, land for construction of bridge over canal to Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune and approval of 364 posts for state Anti-Narcotics Task Force.
