Former MLA Mohan Joshi appointed president of Maharashtra Harijan Sevak Sangh

Mumbai, May 12 (UNI) Former MLA and Vice President of the State Congress, Mohan Joshi, has been appointed as the Maharashtra State President of the Harijan Sevak Sangh, that runs schools and hostels in tribal areas.
He has been appointed state president of Harijan Sevak Sangh, founded by Mahatma Gandhi, for a period of five years.
According to an official media statement issued on Monday, Dr. Shankar Kumar Sanyal, National President of Harijan Sevak Sangh, handed over the appointment letter to Mohan Joshi.
On behalf of Harijan Sevak Sangh, hostels and schools are run in tribal areas. Also, schools and study centers are run for poor students in rural areas.
The work of propagating and spreading the ideas of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar is done by Harijan Seva Sangh and it will be expanded in the coming years, said Joshi after the election.
This year marks 93 years since the establishment of Harijan Sevak Sangh. This organisation is moving towards its centenary.
In this regard, the participation of young men and women of all castes and religions in the Sevak Sangh should increase, efforts will be made towards that end, and the work will be modernised by taking new ideas from the youth, said Joshi.
Gandhian leader, former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Balasaheb Bharde, held the post of President of Maharashtra Harijan Sevak Sangh for many years and made a valuable contribution to the work of the Sevak Sangh in Maharashtra.
The work of Harijan Sevak Sangh has spread internationally, and many intellectuals, researchers, social and political leaders are involved in it, the statement added.
