Odisha beefs up coastal security, deploys drones along entire coast

Bhubaneswar, May 10 (UNI) Following the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Odisha has intensified coastal security measures, deploying drones and enhancing round-the-clock surveillance along the entire coastline.
Additional Director General (ADG) of Coastal Security, Arun Bothra, stated that a high-level meeting was convened on Saturday.
The meeting was chaired by the DGP of Odisha Police and attended by senior state police officials, along with representatives from the Indian Army, Navy, and Coast Guard.
Bothra said the primary focus of the meeting was to strengthen coastal security, particularly as several critical installations are located along the eastern coast.
“In the last four to five days, we have significantly increased patrolling, enhanced security arrangements, and deployed drones along the coast as a precautionary measure,” he added.
The number of ex-servicemen deployed for coastal security has been increased from 90 to 142, with plans to induct more personnel soon.
Although the current threat is concentrated in the northern parts of the country, Bothra warned that potential risks could emerge along the eastern coast in the coming days.
“We are maintaining close coordination with the Coast Guard and are in constant communication,” he said.
He elaborated on the multi-tiered security setup: “The Navy is positioned at the front, the Coast Guard in the middle, and the marine police on the ground—together ensuring comprehensive surveillance of the coastline.”
All marine police stations have been placed on high alert, and coastal protection units have been instructed to coordinate closely with the Coast Guard and Indian Navy.
Bothra also mentioned that joint patrolling exercises are being planned to ensure readiness for any eventuality. Advanced surveillance systems and high-speed interceptor boats have been strategically positioned in sensitive coastal areas.
The meeting further reviewed logistics, manpower availability, and strategies to enhance the capabilities of marine police personnel, Bothra concluded.
