Odisha CM condoles demise of former Union Minister Debendra Pradhan

Bhubaneswar, Mar 17 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday expressed deep condolences on the demise of former Union Minister Debendra Pradhan.
Pradhan, the father of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, passed away at the age of 83 after a prolonged illness at the residence of the Union Education Minister in New Delhi on Monday.
In a condolence message, Majhi said that the late Pradhan was a popular public leader and an able parliamentarian. He served as the Union Minister for Surface Transport and Agriculture from 1999 to 2001 with great efficiency.
As a public representative and MP, Debendra Pradhan became the object of affection for the common people by undertaking numerous welfare initiatives, the Chief Minister said, adding that he made a significant contribution to the development of the state.
As the President of the State BJP, the late Pradhan played a pivotal role in strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party in Odisha through his strong leadership.
He dedicated his entire life to the development of the state with a spirit of service and determination.
The Chief Minister remarked that the country and the state have lost a distinguished public servant with the passing of such a senior figure.
Expressing his condolences to his son, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and the rest of the family, the Chief Minister prayed that God grants them the strength to bear this immense loss.
The Chief Minister also spoke to Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the phone to convey his condolences and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

First scientific coal mine inaugurated in Meghalaya

Shillong, Mar 17 (UNI) Meghalaya on Monday started the first-ever scientific coal mining after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had banned rat-hole coal mining in the state.
The first scientific coal mining block in the state - ‘Saryngkham-A’ Coal Mine, Byndihati in coal-rich East Jaintia Hills district. The coal block has been leased to one coal miner Dapmain Shylla from Byndihati and the mining will be conducted scientifically.
