Odisha Congress to hold torch rallies at Blocks and District Headquarters demanding Justice for Women

Bhubaneswar, Apr 3 (UNI) Odisha Congress will organize a torch rally in every block on April 15 and at district headquarters on April 21, demanding justice for women, Pradesh Congress President Bhakta Charan Das announced on Thursday.
Addressing the media here, Das accused the BJP government of being completely incapable of providing justice to women and their families, who, he alleged, have been subjected to oppression, rape, loot, abduction, and murder in Odisha.
He said both the BJD and BJP governments are deceiving the women of Odisha. The BJP government, he alleged, is disrespecting the women of Odisha and attempting to suppress the voice of the Congress party in the Odisha Assembly by force when raising concerns about women's safety in the state.
The Congress President said the BJP government in Odisha is tarnishing the state's reputation by remaining indifferent to the atrocities being committed against women.
"Instead of ensuring the safety of young girls, they are being pushed into darkness," he remarked.
Das stated that, in demand for justice for women, Congress has gheraoed the Chief Minister's residence, the District Collector’s office, and even the Assembly.
Even on the occasion of Odisha Day, on April 1, Congress expressed its solidarity with helpless women by organizing a candlelight procession at railway stations and bus stands to highlight the plight of 60,000 missing women.
He slammed the BJP government for ignoring the demands of Congress MLAs in the Odisha Assembly for a house committee to probe the rising atrocities against women and ensure justice for them.
Das said the state government could have constituted a five-member ministerial committee or a task force of IAS or IPS officers instead of a house committee to address the rising crimes against women in the state.
He called upon women to remain vigilant against the atrocities being committed against them and warned that Congress would take to the streets if the government did not draft a special policy, law, or rule to curb crimes against women.
The party, Das said, will continue its agitation until the women of Odisha receive justice. He appealed to the mothers and sisters of villages to join the movement by lighting candles in their homes and communities to demand justice for the 60,000 missing women and victims of rape.
He said a torch rally will be held in every block and city on April 15, followed by another rally at district headquarters on April 21, demanding justice for women. The office of the District Magistrate will also be gheraoed.
This will be followed by 10-km-long marches in 35 organizational districts of the Congress, the PCC Chief stated.
