Odisha to cancel ration cards obtained illegally by foreign nationals: Minister

Bhubaneswar, Apr 28 (UNI) The Odisha government will cancel ration cards issued to foreign nationals, who have acquired them through illegal means, State Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said on Monday.
Patra stated that district collectors have been instructed to verify ration cards issued to foreign nationals, particularly those from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Myanmar.
The Minister added that a verification drive would soon be launched to identify foreign nationals who have obtained ration cards and are availing themselves of benefits under the state's Public Distribution System.
After the necessary verifications, these ration cards will be cancelled, Patra said.
Sources indicated that illegal infiltrators, mostly from Bangladesh and Myanmar, have fraudulently managed to obtain ration cards in the state.
The state government, the Minister emphasised, has already issued clear instructions to district collectors to identify and cancel ration cards held illegally by foreign nationals.
Patra said the department, in close coordination with the local administration, is working to ensure that illegally issued ration cards are investigated, rectified, and cancelled.
