Odisha Vigilance unearths assets worth crores from Assistant Block Development Officer

Bhubaneswar, May 15 (UNI) Odisha Vigilance officials have unearthed assets worth crores during a house search operation involving Asit Kumar Patra, Assistant Block Development Officer (ABDO) of Dharmasala Block in Jajpur district.
According to Vigilance sources, the assets include three multi-storeyed buildings, a flat in Cuttack, a shopping complex, five high-value plots, approximately 700 grams of gold ornaments, bank deposits amounting to Rs.65 lakh, and Rs.1.85 lakh in cash.
The search operation was conducted at seven locations linked to Patra across Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, and Bhubaneswar. Movable and immovable assets worth crores have so far been unearthed in the names of Patra and his family members.
The ABDO is currently being questioned to determine the source of these assets. Further searches are underway, and additional assets are likely to be uncovered. The total valuation is expected to rise.
At least seven teams of Odisha Vigilance—comprising eight Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), nine Inspectors, and other supporting staff—carried out the searches based on warrants issued by the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack.
Patra joined government service on November 19, 1994, under a rehabilitation scheme, as a Gram Panchayat Extension Officer (GPEO) in the Panchayati Raj Department.
He was promoted to ABDO in 2010 and posted to Rasulpur Block in Jajpur district. On November 21, 2019, Patra was transferred to Dharmasala Block, where he has been serving since.
