Srinagar, Apr 3 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) Legislative Party, along with alliance partners, will hold a meeting in Srinagar on Friday.
While there is no official word about the agenda of the meeting, sources said that the ruling NC is not happy with the Lt Governor over the recent transfer of Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officers, which were ordered by him.
After the formation of the elected government last year, the power to transfer the JKAS officers rests with the elected government, while the LG has the power to transfer IAS officers.
“The reason for the meeting will be clear to everyone tomorrow. Yes, it has been called an emergency, and it is an important meeting,” said NC Chief Spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq.
Without naming anyone, Sadiq emphasized that no one has the right to undermine the authority of the elected government.
“Last year, people participated in the elections in large numbers and formed the government. Even the Prime Minister and Home Minister praised the peaceful conduct of the elections. This mandate must be respected, and no one has the right to undermine the authority of the elected government,” he asserted.
Chief Whip of NC, Mubarak Gul, in a formal notice said the party Legislative Party meeting along with the alliance partners will be held under the chairmanship of Omar Abdullah, Leader of the House, on April 4 at 11 AM at the official residence of the Deputy Chief Minister‘s Fairview, Gupkar, Srinagar.
“Keeping in view the importance of the meeting, all the Hon’ble Members are requested to kindly make it convenient to attend the said meeting on the aforesaid date, time, and venue,” the notice read.
The meeting has been scheduled just days ahead of the second part of the Budget Session, set to begin on April 7 in Jammu.
The meeting is also expected to focus on formulating a unified stand of the alliance partners on Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions that will be tabled in the Assembly from April 7 to 9.
During the upcoming session, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will deliberate on 14 private member resolutions, three of which call for the restoration of statehood. Sources said the meeting aims to ensure a coordinated approach of the alliance.
The 28-day Budget session began on March 3 with the address of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tabled the budget on March 7, which was the first budget by a democratically elected government of the Union Territory.
