Opposition does not want to see 'One Nation, One Election' implemented: AK Sharma

Gorakhpur, Apr 27 (UNI) Urban Development and Energy Minister of Uttar Pradesh AK Sharma on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to implement the law of One Nation One Election in the entire country in the national interest and in the interest of the countrymen, but the opposition does not want to see it get implemented.
Addressing the Prabuddh Varg Sammelan organised on One Nation One Election, the Minister said that the system of one nation one election was in force in India till 1967. "From 1995 to 2025, elections are being held every year somewhere in the country. Assembly elections were held in the state in 2022 and local body elections in 2023," he said.
He said that development work gets hampered due to separate elections. "Due to the government machinery being engaged in elections for a long time, development work is not completed on time and policy decisions are also affected. Not only this, the interest of voters is also decreasing in the current democratic system due to frequent elections," he said.
Sharma said that with the implementation of One Nation One Election in the country, elections of Lok Sabha, all state assemblies and local bodies will be held simultaneously. "Due to separate elections in the country, a lot of money and resources are spent, which will be saved. This capital will be used in the development of the country and the country will become a prosperous nation but the opponents are not happy with the prosperity of the country and are opposing this system being brought in the national interest," he said.
He said that One Nation One Election will strengthen the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country. "Naxalism, terrorism and the feeling of regionalism will end. The GDP of the country will increase in one and a half to two years and by 2047 our country will be able to become a prosperous developed nation. 'One Nation One Election' is very necessary to save time, money and resources of the country and to strengthen the feeling of Nation First," he said.
The Minister said that One Nation One Election is to strengthen nationalism with the spirit of Nation First. "In ancient times, our country was a very prosperous and strong nation. British economists have also accepted that in ancient times, India's economy was one-fourth of the world, which was destroyed during the rule of foreign invaders, Mughals and British," he said.
He said, "Under the able leadership of PM Modi, India is once again going to achieve its old glory and prosperity. By integrating many systems of the country, better facilities are being provided to the citizens," he said.
Sharma said that like better electricity supply from One Nation One Power Grid, facilities to get ration anywhere in the country with One Nation One Ration Card, Similarly, with the cooperation of all the countrymen, the law of One Nation One Election will also be implemented soon.
He said that a high level committee was constituted on September 2, 2023 under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind. "The committee has also said in its report that conducting simultaneous elections in the country will speed up the development process and promote mutual harmony and social unity. This will strengthen our democracy and Baba Saheb's constitutional system will be further strengthened," he said.
He said, "With the implementation of this system, elections to Lok Sabha, Legislative Assemblies of all the states and local bodies will be able to be held simultaneously across the country by 2029."
On the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister said that Pakistan should be renamed as 'Papistan' where only sinners live. He said that this dreadful incident surpasses even the acts committed by Mohammad Gauri and Mahmud Ghaznavi.
He said, "The terrorists killed people by asking them whether they were Hindus or not, they did not ask anyone's caste. Therefore, we all have to be cautious and vigilant, we should not let the plans of those who challenge the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country succeed. The policy of divide and rule has always weakened us and when we are united and strong, we should always remember the mantra of 'If we divide, we will suffer'."
Sharma said that no matter how much the enemies try, but our reign has lasted for centuries, there is something such that our existence cannot be erased. He has appealed to all the countrymen and residents of the state to come forward to implement the law of One Nation One Election as soon as possible and strengthen the hands of PM Modi and CM Yogi by giving their support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
