Programmes held across 18 districts in UP on World Agri-Tourism Day

Lucknow, May 16 (UNI) Various programmes were organised in 18 districts of Uttar Pradesh under the state's rural tourism initiative 'Agri Rural and Gange Gram Rural Tourism' on the occasion of the 18th World Agri-Tourism Day-2025 on Friday.
The participating districts included Varanasi, Pilibhit, Chitrakoot, Banda, Ayodhya, Lucknow, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar, Kannauj, Pratapgarh, Farrukhabad, Etawah, Auraiya, Mathura, Prayagraj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar and Saharanpur.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said that UP is emerging rapidly in the field of tourism. "The state holds immense potential in rural tourism, and the government is actively working to bring this potential to life. As part of this initiative, 234 villages have been selected to be developed as rural tourism villages, many of which are already operational. These villages promote local products, cuisine, handicrafts and more, resulting in increased income for people associated with rural tourism," he said.
He said that on World Agri-Tourism Day, people from 41 identified tourism villages participated in the programmes organised with the support of various implementing agencies. "The events witnessed the presence of village representatives along with block, district and divisional level officials," he said.
In Varanasi, tree plantations were carried out in the villages of Madhopur Kot, Kathi, Chandrawati and Umraha-Bankat. Similar plantation drives were conducted in Pilibhit as well. Chitrakoot's Banadi village hosted a Bundeli folk song competition, while a boating competition was held in Shivpur Gaur village of Banda. Several other events were held across the districts.
In Lucknow, a programme at the Panchayat Bhawan of Kathwara tourism village in Bakshi Ka Talab saw participation from 60 people from Kathwara, Saspan and Dashahari villages. Local Chikankari handicrafts and zari-zardozi embroidery products were displayed.
In Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar and Saharanpur, special awareness programmes were organised on the theme 'Build Your Own Scarecrow'.
