Youth gets 25 years imprisonment for minor's rape in Chitrakoot

Chitrakoot (UP), May 16 (UNI) A youth was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 12,000 by a local court here on Friday for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Manikpur area of Chitrakoot district here in Uttar Pradesh, a prosecution counsel said here.
Special Public Prosecutor Tej Pratap Singh said that on April 6, a person had lodged a report in Manikpur police station that on the same day, his 12-year-old daughter had gone to collect Mahua along with her brothers. "The complainant alleged that during this, Sharda, a resident of Elha Badhiya village, came there and gagged the daughter and took her to the forest where he raped assaulted her," they said.
He said that the accused also threatened to kill the whole family if she informed anyone about the incident. "When the girl reached home she informed her mother. After this a case was lodged," he said.
The Prosecutor said that the police arrested the accused on the second day and filed a charge sheet in the court within a week on April 11. "After hearing the arguments of the defence and prosecution counsels, special judge Renu Mishra sentenced Sharda to 25 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 12,000," he said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Arun Kumar Singh said that the rapist has been sentenced by the court within 41 days of the incident.
