Chandigarh, March 21 (UNI) Congress MLAs along with leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday protested outside the Punjab Assembly over the arrest of farmers leaders on March 19 and clearing the Khanauri and Shambhu borders where farmers were agitating since February last on their demands.
The Congress MLAs reached the Vidhan Sabha carrying placards depicting pictures of AAP leaders participating in farmers' protests when the party was in opposition.
They alleged that the AAP has stabbed the farmers in the back.
Notably, AAP government, in a sudden crackdown on Wednesday, arrested farmer leaders including Jagjit Singh Dallewal of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Sarvan Singh Pandher of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and cleared the Khanauri and Shambhu borders, where farmers were agitating since February last over their demands which include a law to guarantee minimum support price on their produce.
The government move came just after a meeting between Farmer leaders and Centre as well as Punjab Ministers, was condemned by opposition parties and farmers' organisations, whereas the ruling party has justified it by saying that due to the prolonged blocking of roads, the state's trade and commerce has suffered.
