Punjab cops bust drug network, 5 kg heroin recovered

Chandigarh, May 1 (UNI) In an intelligence-based operation, sleuths of the Counter Intelligence Amritsar busted an international narcotics smuggling network operated by foreign-based individual Jassa and his associates, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said here on social media X on Thursday.
The network has links to Pakistan-based smugglers, Yadav added, adding the police recovered 5 kg heroin and a currency counting machine in the raid.
Yadav said preliminary investigation revealed that Jassa and his foreign-based accomplices
have established links with their India-based associate, Jodhbir Singh alias Jodha, a resident of Amritsar Rural.
Acting on the instructions of his foreign handlers, Jodhbir Singh retrieved heroin consignments and distributed them to various locations across India.
DGP Yadav said that further intelligence indicated that Jodhbir Singh also collected drug proceeds and sent them to Pakistan through hawala channels.
An FIR is registered against Jodhbir Singh and efforts are on to disrupt his network, said the DGP.
