Rajasthan govt orders restriction on use of load-carrying animals during hot afternoon hours

Jaipur, May 4 (UNI) In light of the scorching heat and heatwave conditions, the Rajasthan government has ordered restriction on the use of load-carrying animals during the afternoon hours.
Samit Sharma, Secretary of the Animal Husbandry, Dairy, and Fisheries Department, has issued guidelines to districts to prohibit the use of load-carrying animals like horses, donkeys, mules, buffaloes, and bulls during the afternoon hours to prevent heat-related illnesses.
The guidelines state that the current heatwave conditions can lead to heatstroke, dehydration, and exhaustion in animals, and it is essential to adopt a compassionate and humane approach towards them.
The districts have been instructed to ensure compliance with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and its subsequent rules.
According to the rules, no person shall willfully cause unnecessary pain or suffering to animals, and it is the duty of every person in charge of an animal to take all possible measures to ensure their welfare.
The guidelines specify that in areas where the maximum temperature exceeds 37 degrees Celsius, load-carrying animals should not be used between 12 pm and 3 pm.
The Secretary has directed all District Collectors and District Animal Cruelty Prevention Committee Chairpersons to take necessary steps to ensure compliance with the rules and prevent health issues in load-carrying animals.
The guidelines also emphasise the importance of providing clean drinking water, adequate shade, and nutritious fodder to animals used for agricultural and transportation purposes.
Sharma has asked the public to be made aware of these guidelines through various media channels, including local newspapers, posters, banners, radio, and social media. The districts have been instructed to ensure effective monitoring of the implementation of these guidelines.
