UP govt sanctions Rs 200 cr for flood protection projects

Lucknow, May 4 (UNI) Ahead of the monsoon season, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved flood protection projects worth over Rs 200 crore for the vulnerable districts including Gorakhpur, Shravasti, Amethi, Sitapur, Azamgarh, Ghazipur and Bulandshahr.

The state government has issued strict directives to the Department of Irrigation and Water Resources to ensure robust preparations well before the rains arrive. Funded under both state-sponsored and NABARD-supported schemes, these projects will cover the construction of RCC pillars, embankment repairs, anti-erosion measures and new pumping stations.

A letter has been sent to the Chief Engineer and department heads, directing them to complete all works on a war footing. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made it clear that any negligence will not be tolerated and that all districts must complete flood preparedness measures within the stipulated timeline.
