Reddy slams Telangana govt over land auction

Hyderabad, Mar 31 (UNI) Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy has strongly criticised the Telangana government for its recent decision to auction 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli, calling it a reckless move that endangers Hyderabad’s ecological balance.
In a series of tweets, he condemned the state’s actions, accusing the Congress government of suppressing opposition voices, silencing student protests, and destroying the region’s biodiversity in the name of financial gain.
The minister expressed deep concern over the mass deforestation and loss of green cover in the area, warning that the rich flora and fauna, including Hyderabad’s national bird, the peacock, are being mercilessly displaced.
He described it as heartbreaking to witness the destruction of biodiversity, particularly as bulldozers continue to operate under the cover of darkness. He further highlighted the plight of students at Hyderabad Central University (HCU), who are facing suppression as they resist the encroachment of their institution’s land.
Calling the Telangana government’s actions draconian, Kishan Reddy urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to immediately halt the auction and prioritize the protection of Hyderabad’s urban lung spaces.
He emphasised the need for sustainable development that does not come at the cost of the environment and academic institutions.
