SCR enhances security measures for passenger safety

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (UNI) South Central Railway (SCR) has initiated additional security measures to ensure safer travel for passengers, particularly in city and suburban sections.

General Manager Arun Kumar Jain conducted a review meeting with officials on Teuesday and directed them to implement enhanced security protocols without compromise.

As part of the new measures, more female Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel will be deployed, especially in ladies' compartments and MMTS trains.

Regular patrolling will be intensified during late-night and early-morning hours. Emergency contact numbers will be prominently displayed in ladies' coaches and railway stations, alongside awareness campaigns through public announcements, posters, and digital platforms to educate passengers about safety measures and reporting suspicious activities.

SCR is also strengthening coordination between RPF and GRP by forming joint task forces to ensure quick responses to crimes against women. "Meri Saheli" teams will actively monitor MMTS trains, conducting security assessments on high-risk routes.

Officers in plainclothes will be deployed based on complaints and crime history, while regular drives will be conducted to remove unauthorized male passengers from ladies’ coaches and take action against intoxicated individuals.

Looking ahead, SCR plans to install CCTV cameras in all compartments with real-time monitoring, introduce panic buttons in ladies' coaches linked to a control room, and integrate the railway security helpline 139 with a mobile app featuring an SOS option.

Additional steps include display screens inside trains for safety messages, WhatsApp groups managed by female RPF personnel for immediate assistance, and breath analyzers for RPF to identify and remove intoxicated passengers, a SCR statement said.
