Security is foundation of development, prosperity: Yogi

Gorakhpur, May 11 (UNI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that development and prosperity are only possible in a safe environment and today, every district in Uttar Pradesh has a strong sense of security, which is helping the state move forward in its development journey.
After laying the foundation stone for the 'Shri Paramhans Yoganand Janmasthali Smriti Bhawan' near Kotwali police station in Gorakhpur, the CM said that true development is only meaningful when there is safety and prosperity cannot be achieved without safety. The project, aimed at boosting tourism, will cost Rs 27.68 crore.
Criticising the previous governments, he said, "Before 2017, mafias and corrupt elements operated alongside the government and used to grab government schemes for their benefit."
He said that it was common for mafias to seize land from the poor and traders back then illegally. "But today, no one can do that. Anyone trying to take land forcibly will face serious consequences. And if anyone tries to harass daughters or traders now, they will find their way to Yamaraj's doorstep,” he said.
Yogi said that the secure environment created in UP since 2017 has paved the way for rapid development. "Every district is making progress in heritage conservation and youth employment," he said.
He called Pakistan a terrorist nation and said that the BrahMos missile that targeted the Pakistani jet in recent times will now be made in Lucknow. He said that cannons made in UP will soon instil fear in the enemy, all made possible due to the improved security environment in the state.
The CM said that the nation's battle should be everyone's responsibility. "Only then can spiritual heritage and development be protected. Every citizen should prioritise the nation and stay committed to its security. If the country is safe, so are we," he said.
He warned that those who insult the dignity of the country will face substantial consequences and stressed the need to raise awareness when anyone tries to demoralise Indian soldiers.
Speaking about Yog Guru Paramhans Yoganand, Yogi praised his global contribution in spreading yoga. He said those who forget their ancestors and cultural heritage often drift toward darkness.
He said, "A society that does not express gratitude for its heritage fails to progress. The government is building a Yoga temple at Yoganand Ji’s birthplace as a tribute to his legacy," he said.
The CM said that India has a rich tradition of sages, saints and spiritual masters who revealed the mysteries of the universe through deep meditation and expanded consciousness. "Across the country, different spiritual paths have positively changed people's lives," he said.
He said that Paramhansa Yogananda's interest in yoga and spirituality began in his childhood when he visited the Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur. "In his autobiography, Yogananda also mentioned Gorakhpur. Despite living only 60 years, Yogananda took India’s spiritual heritage to the global stage and earned worldwide respect," he said.
After the Vedic rituals and foundation stone ceremony of the 'Shri Paramhans Yoganand Janmasthali Smriti Bhavan', Yogi reviewed the project's model, layout, and design map on site. Officials briefed him about the various facilities that will be developed on each memorial floor. The CM instructed the officials to ensure high-quality construction and complete the Yoga Temple project within one and a half years.
