Senior officials review ongoing SLBC tunnel relief operations

Hyderabad, Mar 20 (UNI) In a continued effort to expedite relief operations in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, senior officials convened a crucial review meeting on Thursday at the SLBC Inlet 1 Office in Domalapenta, Achampet Constituency, Nagarkurnool District.
The meeting was attended by Army General Commanding Officer Major Ajay Mishra, Disaster and Management Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar, and Nagarkurnool District Collector Badawat Santosh, alongside District SP Vaibhav Gaikwad Raghunath and other senior officers from the Army and relief teams, an official statement said.
Officials emphasised the coordinated efforts of multiple departments to accelerate rescue operations while strictly adhering to safety protocols. Due to persistent spring water impeding progress, high-capacity pumps are being employed to remove water from the accident site.
Rescue teams diligently clear soil, steel, and rocks from the tunnel using specialised machinery, including excavators and conveyor belts. Special experts and equipment have been brought in to address the challenges posed by excess water and soil buildup.
Operations are being conducted in five continuous shifts daily at 7 AM, 11 AM, 3 PM, 7 PM, and 11 PM. A dedicated communication system has also been established to monitor activities within the tunnel closely.
Major Mishra commended the tireless efforts of the central and state rescue teams, who have been working around the clock for 26 days to clear debris and ensure the success of the relief mission.
The meeting was attended by several officials, including Colonel Suresh, Colonel Parikshit Mehra, Vikas Singh, NDRF officers Dr. Harish, GSI officials Tapli Yal, Bhattacharya, Shailendra, Laxman, Singareni Mines Rescue General Manager Baidya, along with personnel from SDRF, Hydra, South Central Railway, Rat Hole Miners, Anvi Robotics, Cadaver Dog Squad, and JP company representatives.
