Srinagar, Mar 25 (UNI) All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) on Tuesday opposed the government order seeking construction of a modern abbatoir in the Aloochi Bagh area of the Srinagar city.
The Committee has appealed to the government to look for an alternate site for the construction of the abbatoir.
J&K government recently accorded administrative approval to the "construction of a modern abattoir at Alochi Bagh, Srinagar, under EPC mode at an estimated cost of Rs. 3167 lacs, under Capex Budget.
Reacting to development APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina in a statement said that the area selected for the construction of the modern abbatoir would hurt the sentiments of the minority community.
"Coexistence is the mantra of a secular and democratic set up and as such sentiments as well as emotions of the different communities need to be taken into consideration by the government. As such I would request the government to drop the idea of constructing the abbatoir at Aloochi Bagh. The same can be constructed at any place in the vicinity where land is available and in such a manner the religious sentiments would not be hurt," said Raina.
The APSCC Chairman said that a portion of the land where the construction of the abbatoir has been proposed was earmarked for a degree college. He said yet another chunk of land at the same place was set to be developed as a modern sports field.
"The place where the abbatoir is proposed to be constructed is being used as a playground by youth belonging to Aloochi Bagh, Khadi Mill, Batamaloo and adjacent areas. Once the abbatoir comes up at this place then these youth would be deprived of a sports field. As such the government should look for some other place for the construction of the abbatoir," said Raina.
