Special awareness drive on National Dengue Day on May 16 in Bihar: Minister

Patna, May 14 (UNI) Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey on Wednesday declared that a special awareness drive would be launched on National Dengue Day on May 16, to educate people on how to protect themselves from the Dengue disease.
Pandey said here that people would be made aware on National Dengue Day on May 16, about the measures required to be taken by them to protect themselves from the Dengue disease. Important measures needed to be taken included looking into areas where the chances of breeding of Dengue mosquitoes were high, cleanliness, and covering of such areas after cleaning them up, he added.
" Spread of Dengue disease usually increases with the onset of the Monsoon ", the Minister said, adding that a committee would be constituted from district to block level for creating awareness among the people about Dengue disease. Till now, no vaccine was available for Dengue, so precautionary measures should be taken with full sincerity to check the spread of the disease, he added.
" Water accumulation should not be allowed in premises of residences, offices, and other institutions as it is most vulnerable for breeding of Dengue mosquitoes ", Pandey said, adding that people's participation was a must to achieve the goal of checking the disease. Blood tests of suspected cases must be done for treatment of the patients, well before their condition could deteriorate, he cautioned.
