Chennai, Mar 19 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday unveiled
a life size statue of Sir John Marshall who discovered and announced the Indus Valley
Civilisation to the World, on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
The statue was installed at the Government Museum complex at Egmore area in the
city at a cost of Rs 50 lakh.
Apart from Mr Stalin, his Cabinet Colleagues and senior officials were present on
the occasion.
"I unveiled the statue of Sir #JohnMarshall, former Director-General of the ASI, at
Chennai Egmore Museum Complex today on his birth anniversary."
"Sir John Marshall, who discovered and announced the #IndusValleyCivilisation to
the world, opened a new chapter in Indian archaeology", Mr Stalin wrote on X.
"His discovery dismantled the false notion that Sanskrit is the foundation of everything
and led to the Dravidian hypothesis, reshaping our understanding of the ancient Indian
subcontinent forever", the Chief Minister said.
"We will continue to strengthen and advance the path he paved for uncovering the true
history of our land", he added.
