Hyderabad Cyber Crime Unit arrests 24 in nationwide crackdown; Rs 1.49 cr refunded to victims

Hyderabad, May 9 (UNI) In a major operation during April 2025, the Cyber Crime Unit of Hyderabad City Police arrested 24 individuals across six states involved in over 313 cyber fraud cases nationwide, with links to 53 cases in Telangana alone.
The arrests were made in Delhi (11), Maharashtra (5), Uttar Pradesh (3), West Bengal (3), Bihar (1), and Madhya Pradesh (1), a police statement said on Friday.
Officials seized mobile phones, laptops, fake company stamps, swiping machines, rubber stamps, and even counterfeit soap bars being sold under fake branding.
In a trademark violation case, fake skincare products caused health issues among users, prompting legal action. In another case, a Hyderabad victim lost Rs 17.39 lakh to a fraudulent investment scheme posing as a Dubai-based venture.
A total of Rs 1.49 crore was refunded to victims in 45 cyber fraud cases, including stock trading scams, OTP frauds, credit card frauds, fake customer care scams, and money laundering.
The police warned the public against suspicious calls or video messages claiming to be from agencies like CBI, RBI, or ED, and against downloading unknown APK files sent via SMS or messaging apps.
Citizens are urged to report cyber frauds immediately to 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in for a chance to recover the scammed amounts.
