Chennai, Mar 14 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government will introduce a new
Maritime Transport Manufacturing policy, 2025 to promote investment and
innovation in ship and boat design.
Presenting the Budget for the year 2025-26 in the State Assembly, Finance
Minister Thangam Thennarasu on Friday said Tamils have a rich tradition of
shipbuilding dating back to the Sangam period.
To revive this maritime heritage and position Tamil Nadu as a global shipbuilding
hub, the State Government will introduce the ‘Tamil Nadu Maritime Transport
Manufacturing Policy 2025’.
This policy will promote investment and innovation in ship and boat design, ship
hull fabrication, and ship engine production.
The growth of this industry will generate 30,000 jobs in districts such as Cuddalore
and Thoothukudi, while also fostering the development of the micro, small, and
medium enterprises sector.
Stating that Tamil Nadu is home to leading companies in the life sciences sector,
the Minister said to strengthen the life sciences ecosystem and establish Tamil
Nadu as a leader in emerging fields like biosimilars and therapeutics, a
state-of-the-art bioscience park will be developed near Chennai.
This park will feature world-class infrastructure, common testing centres, laboratories
and other essential technological facilities required for manufacturing high value-added
products in the sector, along with plug-and-play manufacturing facilities.
