TN tourists return home safely from Pahalgam

Chennai, Apr 24 (UNI) After the shocking terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam
that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, several Tamil Nadu natives who were on a holiday trip
to the region returned home safely to Chennai on Thursday.
The returned tourists expressed deep gratitude to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the Tamil
Nadu government for acting swiftly and ensuring their safe evacuation.
They were shifted from Pahalgam to Delhi and were accommodated at Tamil Nadu House
where they were received by DMK MPs AKS Vijayan and Trichy N Siva and provided boarding
and lodging facilities.
They were sent to Chennai by air today morning.
Speaking to reporters at the Chennai Airport, the tourists shared their traumatic experience.
“We were very excited when we left for Kashmir, but we never imagined it would turn into a
nightmare,” said one of the travellers.
“We feared for our lives. We kept wondering – is this what Kashmir is really like? There was
panic and chaos all around”, the tourists recalled the terrifying moments when the attack
unfolded.
“It was very scary. We have never experienced anything like this before", they said, while
thanking the tourist guide at Pahalgam for escorting them to a safer place, before the
TN government ensured their return to home.
One of the tourists said, one member suffered a heat attack on hearing about the terror
attack and was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The Tamil Nadu government acted promptly after hearing about the terror attack. A special
rescue team was deployed to coordinate with local authorities in Kashmir, and arrangements
were made for the safe return of all Tamil Nadu tourists.
“We are thankful to the Chief Minister for his timely intervention. The government arranged
for our travel back to Chennai and also took care of our onward journey to places like Madurai,”
said another tourist.
Comparing their experience in Kashmir with life back home, many expressed a renewed
appreciation for the peace and safety in Tamil Nadu. “We feel much safer in Tamil Nadu.
There’s a sense of calm here that we took for granted. This trip made us realize that.”
As they returned home, the tourists were met with comfort and assistance at the airport.
State government officials received them and ensure smooth travel arrangements for
those heading to different districts.
