Tripura’s unemployment rate is lower than national average

Agartala, May 1 (UNI) When opposition parties raised their voice over growing unemployment, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha claimed that the unemployment rate in the state is much lower than the national average.

"According to a survey, the unemployment rate in Tripura in 2018-19 was much higher than the national average. In 2018-19 national average was 5.8%, and the state average was 10%. And in 2023-24, the state average is 1.7% while the national average is 3.2%,” Dr Saha said.

He said that 17,554 persons have received government jobs till March 2025, with 3,554 appointed this year alone. The process of issuing appointments has been ongoing for several months, in strict adherence to the government’s transparent recruitment policy, and the government is committed to ensuring jobs for the most eligible persons.

He emphasized that one of the primary goals of his administration is to expedite government processes through transparency and accountability. Besides new job creation, efforts are underway to fill existing vacancies across departments. The government has also facilitated recruitment through outsourcing to prevent administrative delays.
