Union I&B Minister of State visits border villages in South Tripura

Agartala, May 16 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr L Murugan, while visiting border villages in Belonia under South Tripura as part of his two-day visit, asserted that under the Modi government border villages are not the last but the first to receive all infrastructure and benefits.
He arrived here on Thursday and, after a brief halt, proceeded to Belonia. There, he chaired a review meeting with district-level officials to assess the implementation and progress of various central government schemes in South Tripura, where he reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive development.
Belonia lies on the border with Bangladesh.
He also inspected the Muhurighat Land Customs Station and a border check post in Belonia to review border management infrastructure and facilities supporting cross-border trade. During interaction with the local people, he pointed out that the Modi-led government has set a priority to ensure basic amenities, including clean drinking water, roads, electricity, and other essential services to the border and distant parts of the country.
Dr Murugan emphasised the government’s commitment to bridging development gaps in the Northeast, particularly in bordering states. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of development in South Tripura, noting that the district has outperformed the state average in several indicators. He also congratulated officials for their dedicated efforts.
Highlighting grassroots entrepreneurship, the minister lauded the success of over 28,000 'Lakhpati Didis'—women who have achieved financial self-reliance through government initiatives—calling it a stellar example of women-led development. He also visited the Akashwani Belonia station, where he interacted with listeners live on air.
